Windows is still a bad choice for most maker projects. Just like Linux, if you run good drivers on reliable hardware the system will run. I have seen more Linux Crashes than Windows crashes in the last 10 year. The neat thing with commercial software, their motivation is based on making money, so if you negotiate a deal you can do almost anything you want. If there is a genuine advantage of using Windows in such a device, then it would probably account for the cost. Pay Microsoft some money for the license and pass the cost in the device.
